Standard Grade Chemistry
The two year Standard Grade Chemistry course is made up of 8 units, each of which takes 6 weeks along with 7 practical abilities which are assessed during the 2 year course.
Course content :-
Unit 1 Introduction to chemical reactions.
Unit 2 Fuels and hydrocarbons.
Unit 3 Reactivity of metals and study of the periodic table.
Unit 4 Electric chemistry.
Unit 5 Acids, alkalis and their reactions.
Unit 6 Carbohydrates and fertilisers.
Unit 7 Corrosion and its prevention.
Unit 8 Plastics and synthetic fibres.
Work is assessed on performance in the following course elements:
Knowledge and Understanding - written exam.
Problem Solving - written exam.
Practical Abilities - experiments carried out in class.
