At present pupils 4th, 5th and 6th years are following courses at IntII, Higher or Advanced Higher level. Many of our pupils try and further their interest and apply to both colleges and universities.
The department has made a commitment to using ICT and pupils will be taught to enhance the visual presentation of their design work through use of digital camera, scanner and photoshop and other computer software. We are also trying to start an Animation Group with a core of S.2 pupils.

The department has three general-purpose teaching rooms and one other room that is used for ICT.
Pupils
At present we have two lunchtime clubs and from time to time a Friday p.m. slot.
Senior pupils have just visited the SAQ exhibition at the National galleries of Scotland.
In the 5th and 6th years to help support both their Art & Design and Critical & Historical coursework pupils are encouraged to make visits to Art Galleries and Exhibitions. Each year we visit the Edinburgh College of Art to view their Degree Show and in recent years some pupils have also visited other college shows. We regularly attend open days and have been to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee Colleges of Art.
Over the last few years some pupils have attended (for a week) the Summer School at Edinburgh College of Art and others have gone to their Saturday morning classes. Pupils also participate in a Friday afternoon Portfolio class that is run by East Lothian Arts Service.
Staff
Over recent times Art and Design staff have been making visits to other schools to examine good practice. Also, we have attended a variety of courses and training opportunities that cover a wide range of activities including ICT.
The full homework policy can be found in the school homework guide booklet.
Department homework policy and content is presently under review. At present all homework issued will still be written-up in pupils organisers. Homework will soon be going online, so watch this space!
Former pupils are now studying courses in Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Product Design and Architecture. Other former pupils who have Degree qualifications now work in a range of professions such as, Graphic Design, Web Design, Retail Management (Fashion) and Architectural Design.
From time to time we have entered various national and local art and design competitions and have had success with first prize winners in three different design competitions.
Ross High pupils won 1st, 2nd & 3rd Prizes in their age category for the Daily Record Sponsored Competition to design a Logo for the 2004 Scottish Education Awards.
Also, second year pupil Kimberley Torley won the overall award and her design (which was chosen by Scotland's First Minister, Jack McConnell) will be used at the awards ceremony in March. Neil Buchanan from the TV programme 'Art Attack' said of Kimberly's design
" This design leaped out. It's a great idea and I really like the use of one colour to create a really bold effect".
