The department’s main aim is the development of students' technological capability. This involves the understanding of technical processes; the ability to apply and transfer skills; and the ability to evaluate products and make choices. This is achieved through designing, making and evaluating of set projects. In each project the student has to some extent define the problem to be solved and make decisions as to the solution within defied parameters. This solution is then produced and the student is involved in the product evaluation.
The ethos of the department is to create an atmosphere which has a positive effect on the pupils. The department should capture pupils' interests and curiosity and pupils should feel supported and stimulated. They should view the department as a place where excellence is expected and hard work and endeavour rewarded.
