The Guidance department is committed to achieving for students the best possible arrangements for learning within the school system and to ensure that the school experience supports the development of the individual through the concept of lifelong learning
The department takes account of changing circumstances, new initiatives and, in particular, the major drive to raise standards and help students maximise learning opportunities.
Each pupil will have entitlement to high quality guidance appropriate to each stage of his/her learning while at school.
To achieve this aim with consistency the Guidance Team will:
Maximise learning by ensuring that pupils make the best progress possible as they move through the school system so they can attain the best performance of which they are capable.
Manage the learning environment for pupils by ensuring that pupils are supported in a safe, non-threatening environment where they have the confidence to learn effectively.
Remove by identifying issues relating to family life and the community which impact on pupils’ ability to fully engage with the learning process. Guidance Staff will have responsibility for contact with parents and partner agencies in order to ensure effective support strategies are in place.
Develop a culture of personal responsibility by ensuring that pupils have increasing opportunities to take responsibility for their own personal development and learning. The prime context for this aspect of guidance is the broadly based personal learning plans which will include personal, vocational and curricular target setting, as well as the recording and celebration of achievement.
