Standard Grade – Course Content

Pupils gain their final grade through an Investigation and a 3 part exam on the topics below;

Year 1 –

Christianity; Creation and Evolution, Evil and Suffering, Nature of God, Life of Jesus, Teachings, Rites of Passage, Festivals

Belief and Morality

Life after Death, Euthanasia, Martin Luther King, Relationships

Year 2 –

Hinduism ; Key concepts, Gods and goddesses, Teachings, Rites of Passage, Festivals

Belief and Morality; Ethical and Religious Stances on War, Abortion, Relationships

Accommodation

The department is housed on the ground floor in Rooms 24 and 27 next to Maths and Pupil Support.

Extra Curricular Activities

There is a weekly Lunch Club available (Thursdays rm 24) to allow pupils access to departmental facilities, pop in for a chat and get help with any homework or course work. 

Standard Grade pupils also enjoy trips to Dynamic Earth and Edinburgh Zoo in year 1 of the course.

Homework

S1 pupils will complete homework on a fortnightly basis from August 2006.

All certificated pupils will complete homework on a weekly basis.

News

Standard Grade pupils have had a successful year with a pass rate of between 80- 100% in all assessments! Pupils enjoyed a trip to Dynamic Earth and Edinburgh Zoo in November, all had a fantastic day.

The department is pleased to welcome a new PT; Mrs Vlachos who arrived in January from Armadale Academy. 

S1 pupils are currently working on a Disaster Movie linking with their Environment Unit. Pupils are writing a movie considering human error and the consequences to humanity if the environment is not cared for.
