College

Entry varies between courses
From 0-4 Standard Grades up to 1-3 Highers
You apply to colleges direct
Some courses have deadlines and some are very popular so make sure and apply as early as possible
Phone colleges for a prospectus and application form or check the red boxes in the library

University

Entry requirements vary depending on the university and course
Most will ask for 3 to 5 Highers
You apply for up to 6 courses through UCAS
You will complete your UCAS form by the end of Term 1 of S5/6
Vet,Dentistry,Medicine and Oxbridge have a much earlier closing date

Work & Training

You need to get prepared and this will include
Identifying what kind of work will interest you
Will you have the required qualifications?
What do you know about the job? If unsure go to the careers information section here
It is important that you attend the ‘Opportunities’ exhibition in Term 2 – see your guidance teacher
The Steps to Success leaflets give information on a wide range of job hunting techniques

Take up paid employment or voluntary work here or abroad
It is very important that you prepare well in advance
Decide on where and what you want to do (and the costs!)
Check if visas or vaccinations are required
